Doris Ogala’s Cyberstalking Trial Faces Fresh Delay in Lagos Court
The planned arraignment of Nollywood actress Doris Ogala over allegations of cyberstalking and related cybercrime offences has suffered another setback, prolonging a legal battle that has continued to attract public attention.
The actress is facing a four-count charge filed by the Federal Government, bordering on alleged cyberstalking, cyberbullying, dissemination of false information, publication of private materials without consent, and attempted extortion involving popular cleric Pastor Chris Okafor.
Court proceedings were unable to move forward as scheduled, with legal arguments and procedural issues once again preventing the formal arraignment of the actress. Earlier hearings had also been delayed following her absence in court, which her legal team attributed to health-related challenges after undergoing surgery.
During previous proceedings, prosecutors had sought a bench warrant to compel her appearance, arguing that she had been duly notified of the court date. However, the court declined the request and instead directed that a verifiable medical report from a government hospital be provided while ordering the defendant to appear at the next hearing.
According to court documents, the Federal Government alleges that between 2024 and 2026, Ogala used social media platforms to publish materials and allegations capable of causing reputational damage to the complainant. The prosecution further claims that some of the content circulated online contained false accusations and amounted to harassment and intimidation.
The charges also include allegations that the actress transmitted electronic messages intended to embarrass and bully the complainant, while prosecutors claim there were attempts to obtain financial benefits through threats of further publications. Ogala has not yet entered a plea as her arraignment is still pending before the court.
Legal observers say the repeated delays could extend the timeline of the high-profile case, which continues to generate interest within Nigeria’s entertainment and religious communities.
The court is expected to fix a new date for the continuation of proceedings, with both parties preparing for what could become one of the most closely watched cybercrime cases involving a Nigerian celebrity this year.
