APC Taunts PDP as Makinde Emerges Dominant Figure in Governors’ Forum

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), amid growing concerns over internal divisions and the rising influence of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, within the party.
The APC’s criticism follows indications that Makinde may be positioning himself as a central figure capable of leading the PDP Governors’ Forum, a development some observers say could further deepen factional tensions in the party.
In its reaction, the APC mocked the PDP, suggesting that the opposition party is struggling with leadership crisis and lacks cohesion as it prepares for future political battles.
The statement implied that the PDP’s internal wrangling—particularly between influential blocs—has weakened its structure, making it vulnerable ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde, who has steadily grown in political influence within the PDP, is reportedly gaining support from some governors and party stakeholders, strengthening his position as a key power broker in the party.
However, his rising profile has also fueled rivalries, with other factions expressing concern over what they describe as a concentration of influence in the hands of a few individuals.
The APC used the opportunity to question the PDP’s unity, portraying the party as fragmented and struggling to present a strong alternative to the ruling party.
The ongoing power tussle within the PDP highlights the deepening cracks in Nigeria’s main opposition party, as different camps continue to compete for control and influence ahead of future elections.
