Plateau Killings: IGP Deploys Tactical Forces to Restore Peace Following Escalating Violence
In response to the ongoing wave of attacks and killings that have shaken Plateau State since March 28, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of police tactical assets to the affected areas. This action underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to restore peace, safeguard the lives of residents, and bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice.
The IGP has assigned Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Operations (DIG Kwazhi Yakubu) to lead the strategic deployment of resources. The operation will include reinforcements with specialized units such as the Police Mobile Force, helicopters, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), drones for enhanced surveillance, and platoons from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
Egbetokun emphasized that the tactical team will focus on conducting special operations to curb the attacks that have particularly ravaged Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding communities, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives.
The violence, which started on March 28, 2025, with a brutal attack in Bokkos, has since escalated, claiming the lives of many and leaving communities gripped with fear. The IGP has directed DIG Kwazhi and the security forces to take a multi-faceted approach, aimed at not only addressing the immediate violence but also preventing future attacks.
DIG Kwazhi visited Plateau State on April 8, 2025, where he met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang. During the meeting, the IGP’s condolences were conveyed to the affected families and communities, while discussions were held to assess the situation and develop long-term solutions to end the senseless killings.
The Nigeria Police Force has committed to working closely with the Plateau State Government, local leaders, and other stakeholders to restore peace and stability to the region. The Force also urges residents to cooperate with security agencies and provide any information that could aid ongoing investigations and help maintain peace on the Plateau.
