18 Passengers Die In Badagry Expressway Auto Crash

Eighteen people on Sunday lost their lives in a fatal motor accident that happened around the Badagry area of Lagos state.

The victims were said to be traveling for a social function from Lagos State to Benin Republic when the accident occurred, killing all the occupants including the driver.

Nigeria Standard gathered that the deceased passengers of the 18-seater bus chartered the bus from the Yaba area of Lagos to attend a group party in the Republic of Benin.

According to reports, the bus collided with a truck in Agemowo on the Lagos-Badagry expressway when the driver of the attempted to overtake a vehicle, and then lost control in the process leading to head-on collision.

Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Taofiq Adebayo confirmed the incident.

He said “It involved a Mazda commercial bus with passengers and a truck loaded with sand.

“The driver of the commercial bus lost control when he saw a truck ahead of him while trying to overtake the tipper truck loaded with sand.

“Immediately, people died including the 18 passengers alongside the commercial bus driver and his motor boy.”

Adebayo said the remains of the victims have been taken to the Badagry General Hospital morgue.
